CIP Holds Pre-Orientation Programme for 2018 International Students At UEW
The Centre for International Programmes (CIP) in the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on Wednesday 17th January, 2018 organised an orientation programme for the 2018 international students pursuing internship programmes. The programme took place at the Registrar’s Conference Centre, North Campus.
The objective of the programme was to enhance and equip the students with necessary information to help them in their stay in Ghana. In all 35 students are expected in Winneba to pursue internship programmes (11 students were present at the time of the orientation and 24 additional students are expected to arrive in Ghana for their internship as well.)
The Vice-Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Samuel Yirenkyi, officially welcomed the foreign students to Ghana and the Institution as well. He encouraged them to feel at home in the friendly environment of Ghana.
The Head, Department of Immigration and Citizenship Service (DIC) in Effutu Municipal, Joana Agbeti, took them through Immigration processes and the laws that mandate these processes. Some of these processes are the Emergency Entry Visa, Student Permit and Extension.
The Head of Zenith Bank, Mr. Jerry John Otchere and a Relationship Banker at HFC Bank, Mr. Ablade Ofori explained the standard banking processes of their respective banks in Ghana to the students.
They educated them on how to save their foreign currencies in the banks and how to open accounts with them. They also informed them about the documents and cards the state would need to use when opening accounts, saving monies or withdrawing money.
The Head of Security, UEW, Mr. Samuel Kwadjo Okai took the students through some measures to keep them safe during their stay in Ghana and in the University. He advised them not to use obscured places on campus to avoid being robbed or attacked by bad people.
An Administrator at the University clinic, Mr. Nai Doku also talked to them on how they can preserve a healthy life during their stay in Ghana. He advised them to exercise to keep themselves fit.
The Head, Department of Home Economics Education, Ms. Theresa Alexandra Amu, also introduced them to the various Ghanaian dishes, how they are prepared, ingredients used to prepare them and how they are eaten.
She encouraged them to take in more fruits, vegetables and water due to the current weather condition in Ghana.
