ITECPD Schools UEW Lecturers on ICT and Multimedia Tools for Effective Teaching
The Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD)-UEW has schooled lecturers of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) on the use of ICT and multimedia tools to enhance effective teaching.
The training which was held for all teaching staff as part of Management’s efforts towards ensuring improved modes and quality of teaching in the University took place at all the four campuses of UEW.
The workshop was also a further preparation of Management towards the anticipated large number of admissions the University would be offering in the coming years following the government’s free Senior High School (SHS) policy currently in full operation in the country.
The exercise started at the College of Agriculture Education, Ashanti-Mampong on Wednesday, 13th June, and proceeded to the College of Technology Education, Kumasi (COLTEK) on Thursday, 14th June, 2018. The Winneba Campus hosted personnel of ITECPD on Monday, 18th and Wednesday, 20th June whereas the College of Languages Education (CoLANGE), Ajumako welcomed Prof. Dominic Mensah and his cohorts on Friday, 22nd June, 2018.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni said at the Winneba Campus he was hopeful that participants would gain a lot from the workshop.
Meanwhile, the Principal of CoLANGE, Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh called on lecturers of the College to make use of ICT to improve teaching and learning. He however expressed his excitement about the workshop as he believed participants would be more equipped with modern tools and methods of teaching and learning. He encouraged participants to take active part in the workshop.
Addressing participants during the brief opening session at COLTEK, the Director of ITECPD, Prof. Dominic K. Danso Mensah emphasised that the knowledge to be acquired by the lecturers was critical to their success as teachers in the 21st century.
“In the coming years, our University would be admitting large numbers of students because of the free SHS policy the government has implemented. We need to prepare you so we are not overwhelmed when the time comes; therefore incorporating modern technology in our work has become a necessity now.” Prof. Mensah said to the lecturers.
In his presentation at the various campuses, the Director of ICT Services, Dr. Ephraim Kwaa-Aidoo hinted that the University was in the process of acquiring more projectors and other ICT gadgets as well as improving the internet connectivity on its four campuses to boost teaching and learning.
The Head of Educational Resource Centre, Dr. Samuel Asare Amoah also a member of the facilitators tasked participants to embrace the use of modern modes of teaching in the University.
Among the University officials present at the various campuses were the Ag. COLTEK Registrar, Mr. Michael Kofi Twum-Ampomah; Deputy Registrar for ITECPD, Mr. Steve van Kamassah; Head of Academic Affairs, Ajumako, Mr. Emmanuel Kutorglo; Mrs. Rawlincia Asabre-Maclean of ITECPD and others.
