JAYEE is the acronym of ‘JOHN EMMANUEL’, the initials of the names of the founder and President, Mr J E Donkoh, of the JAYEE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE.
The University College started modestly as a secretarial school with eight (8) students at YMCA, Adabraka – Accra in 1988. With time, the students’ number grew, and it became necessary for a more spacious campus. Jayee consequently, relocated to the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. The name was changed from Jayee Secretarial School to Jayee Professional Training Institute.
The programmes that were run included English and French Languages (beginner, intermediate and proficiency), Computer programmes, Computer Integrated Secretaryship and Bi-lingual Secretaryship.
The desire to expand and include marketable and more preferred programmes led to the acquisition of its present campus at Royal Palm Avenue, McCarthy Hill on the Mallam – Kasoa highway in 1999.
Jayee got affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba in 2004 and re-named as Jayee Institute.
The Institute was accredited by the National Accreditation Board to run a 3-year Advanced Diploma in Journalism (with options in Sports Reporting, Political Reporting, Environmental Reporting, and Economic Reporting) and Business Administration (with options in Accounting, Secretaryship and Management, Public Relations and Marketing). There is a 2-year Non-Tertiary Diploma in Office Management and Secretaryship.
Since then Jayee’s academic affairs have been monitored by her mentor, the University of Education, Winneba.
In 2008, the National Accreditation Board re-accredited Jayee to run 4-year degree programmes.
