Kenya Delays School Opening Until May 6th as Floods Cause Disruption

The recent floods in Kenya have been particularly severe, affecting millions of people and causing widespread destruction. Due to this disaster Kenya Delays School Opening Until May 6th, 2024 as Floods Cause Disruption.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu explained the postponement due to heavy rains and emphasized the Ministry’s proactive approach to assess Basic Education Institutions’ readiness for the upcoming term.

“The devastating effects of the rains in some of the schools are so severe that it will be imprudent to risk the lives of learners and staff before water-tight measures are put in place to ensure adequate safety for all affected school communities,” Machogu Stated.

Machogu pledged to collaborate with stakeholders to tackle inclement weather challenges, implementing measures to mitigate adverse effects and providing regular updates for transparency and accountability in the education sector.

“In the meantime, the Ministry will work with relevant agencies and stakeholders to put in place measures to mitigate the adverse effects of the rains and provide regular updates on all developments as pertain to the education sector,” He concluded.

The decision to delay the reopening of schools in Kenya until May 6th reflects the government’s commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of students and staff in the face of unprecedented challenges.
