MPhil Architectural Studies – 2 years

– MArch (Master of  Architecture) – Two (2) years
– MSc Architecture – One (1) year / Two (2) years
– MPhil Architectural Studies –  Two (2) years
MSc Architecture (One Year)
Admission Requirements
Students who have completed the Postgraduate Diploma (or higher) in Architecture and related fields of study from accredited/government recognized University will be admitted into the programme.

  1. Students must demonstrate relevant experiences as well as the capacity for undertaking advanced academic study with at least an Undergraduate and Postgraduate cumulative weighted average in architectural (or related fields) studies of at least 60 percent.
  2. Three letters of recommendation from three previous faculties and/or members of the profession.
  3. Portfolio of architectural studies (or related fields) works.
  4. In addition to these requirements, all applicants must pass an interview by a panel from the Departmental Board.

MSc Architecture (Two Years)
Admission Requirements
These programmes are offered to students with architecture background, after obtaining a first undergraduate degree.  Admission to these programmes may be preceded by an interview. 
MArch (Master of Architecture) – Two Years
Admission Requirements
This programme is for students with a first degree in Architecture in any recognised institution. Students are chosen by set criteria based on detailed results at the undergraduate levels.

  1. Students must demonstrate relevant experiences as well as the capacity for undertaking advanced academic study with at least an Undergraduate and Postgraduate cumulative weighted average in architectural (or related fields) studies of at least 60 percent.
  1. Three letters of recommendation from three previous faculties and/or members of the profession.
  2. Portfolio of architectural studies (or related fields) works.
  3. In addition to these requirements, all applicants must pass an interview by a panel from the Departmental Board.

PhD (Architecture) – Four Years
Admission Requirements
The PhD (Architecture) programme is open to Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Master of Architecture, Master of Science (Architecture), Master of Arts graduates and Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture holders following initial registration of an MPhil, full-time (2 year minimum full-time) or part-time (minimum 3 years); research in the fields of engineering, sciences or humanities with connections to architecture is admissible subject to approval by the Departmental Board. As pertains in KNUST and most Universities in the world, research students will be initially registered on the MPhil, but will transfer and backdate registration based on evidence of good progress and with a supportive recommendation from Supervisor(s) through the Departmental Board.
Additionally, students seeking admission must:

  1. Demonstrate sufficient ability and interest to undertake the programme.
  2. Attend an interview session and pass the interview before admission.
  3. Submit a coherent and sustainable research proposal with workable programme/time table.
