About KNUST School of Graduate Studies

Before 1974, only a few Departments were offering Postgraduate programmes in the University. The Board of Graduate Studies was established in 1974 to coordinate the activities of those few Departments. It was elevated to the status of a School in (2000AD) following a restructuring by the University Council, to empower it face the present challenges of Graduate Studies in the Country.
The Objective of graduate studies at KNUST has been the training and development of graduates of higher degree Programmes to acquire specialized skills in Science and Technology, to enable them provide appropriate research initiative and leadership in industry, commerce and other sectors of the national economy. Over the years considerable effort has been made in the various Academic Departments and Faculties to develop graduate programmes that are relevant to the promotion of economic, social, scientific and technology advancement of Ghana. In pursuit of this objective, material and human resources have been appropriately mobilized from within and outside the University to ensure maximum utilization of available potential.

Aims and Objectives

The School of Graduate Studies has the following objectives:

  • To train high – level manpower
  • To improve student performance
  • To solve problems of national and international dimensions
  • To contribute to knowledge
  • To ensure the relevance of graduate programmes for promotion of economic, social and scientific and technical development in Ghana.
  • To expand graduate training through developing research and entrepreneurship.
  • To mobilize appropriate human and material resources from within and outside the University to ensure maximum utilization of available potential.

The Objectives stated above are in line with the University’s objectives.

KNUST School of Graduate Studies General Admission Requirements

  • Masters’ Programmes

At the time of application, applicants should possess a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent from a recognized Institution in the relevant field of study.  Preference will be given to applicants with a First Class, Second Class (Upper or Lower Division)

  • Ph.D Programmes

Candidates applying for Doctor of Philosophy degree must have a Master’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized Institution and shall submit evidence of adequate training and ability to undertake the proposed programme.

How to Apply

The School of Graduate Studies, KNUST has one admission window  which falls between February and April  every year. Prospective graduate students are to read the guidelines below carefully.
MODE OF APPLICATION
Sale of E-Vouchers/Forms for admission shall commence on 1st February, 2017.
 i. First of all, candidates must purchase an eVoucher by paying an application fee of Two Hundred and Twenty Ghana Cedis (GH¢220.00) at the following banks: GCB, Ecobank and Unibank.
ii. Upon payment of the application fee, candidates will receive an eVoucher containing an application number and PINthat will grant access to the online admissions portal.
iii. Candidates should then proceed to online admissions website:https://admissions.knust.edu.gh/pgadmissionsnew/ and begin the application process. Foreign or International applicants should follow this link https://apps.knust.edu.gh/admissions/apply/Account/Register to generate application log-in details.  You would be required to pay application processing fees upon admission.
iv. Once the process has been completed, candidates must print out 3 copies of the completed application form from the portal and submit them (by post) to the School of Graduate Studies along with all relevant documents (Photocopies of Certificates, Recommendation Letters, and (Transcript for those attending KNUST for the first time)) to the following address:
