How to apply

Where to submit your application

All applications for degree and one-year study programmes taught in English must be submitted via the online applications portal (søknadsweb).

Use the link to the applications portal provided on this page or the link on the study programme page. We do not accept applications via email.

Applications for intake in autumn open on the following dates:

Non-EU/EEA: October 1
EU/EEA: January 1

NB: We do not review qualifications or applications prior to the applicable deadlines. Applications submitted after the applicable deadlines will not be considered.
Please note: These dates relate specifically to programmes taught in English and aimed at the international market. Different deadlines may apply for applicants to the central admissions authority. Programmes offered through central admissions (Samordna opptak) require Norwegian language qualifications. See Norwegian-taught programmes or the Norwegian admissions page for more information.

Required documentation

After you submit your application online, you must upload your documentation in the online application portal. Special requirements apply to some countries – Please check the country overview below. If you are required to submit an English test result, please check the requirements that apply. Incomplete applications will not be considered for admission.Afghanistan, Congo DRC, Iraq, Liberia, Libya, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Yemen: Prior to applying to Nord university you must apply for recognition of foreign higher education. NOKUT`s general recognition of higher education.

2. Copies of your high school/secondary school diploma and transcripts

3. Copies of your final diploma and transcripts from higher education.

4. Proof of English requirements. 

5. Copy of passport. We require only the pages that contains your full name, date of birth and photo identification.

6. Documentation of name change (if applicable).

Any documentation not provided in English, Swedish, Danish or Norwegian must be accompanied by an official translation. Only translations carried out by a government-authorized or otherwise accredited translator will be considered. You must include a copy of the original document. The degree programme you are applying for may stipulate additional, field-specific requirements. Check the detailed admission requirements on the study programme page.

These deadlines apply: January 2 for non-EU/EEA and May 1 for EU/EEA

Special requirements that cannot be uploaded to the online application portal and have to be sent by post.

·       USA: transcripts from high school must be sent from the school directly, in a sealed envelope.

·       Canada, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Hong Kong, Philippines, Ghana, Cameroon, Macau, Nigeria, Sudan, Taiwan and USA: Official academic transcript must be sent in a sealed envelope by post directly from the college/university.   Official Transcript Request Philippines[EA2] .

·       Pakistan: HEC verification of all documentation related to higher education must be sent by post.

·       China: documentation verified by CDGDC or CHSI must be sent by post.

·       Iran: copies of translations to English of your diploma / degree certificate and transcript of academic records must be carried out by Official  Translators of the Justice Administration in Iran must be sent by post.


 Proofe of English profiency:

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) must be sent by post from test center.

Special documentation requirements that can be uploaded to your application:

  • Russia: education taken after 2011 must be verified by Rosobrnadzor and and can be uploaded to the application. (choose Russia from the menu here to read more)

  • Ukraine: documentation must be verified by the Ministry of Education and Science and can be uploaded to the application. (choose Ukraine from the menu here to read more)

  • Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Liberia, Ghana and Gambia: access card/scratch card from WAEC (West African Examination Council) or NECO (National Examinations Council) must accompany the documentation and can be uploaded to the application.

When to expect a response

Non-EU/EEA applicants can expect to receive a response to their application by the end of March for admission in autumn.
EU/EEA applicants can expect to receive a response to their application by the end of May for admission in autumn.

Offer of admission

If your application for admission is accepted, you will receive an offer of admission from Nord University.

Admission requirements

If you are a full-degree applicant or free mover applying for admission to a bachelor degree programme or any programme or course at a undergraduate level, you must meet the general admission requirements provided below.
The degree programme or course you are applying for may stipulate additional field-specific requirements. Check the detailed admission requirements on the relevant programme page. Find your programme using our search, or by browsing the programme overview.

Higher education entrance qualification

The higher education entrance qualification is the equivalent of Norwegian upper secondary school and constitutes the minimum standard of education required to undertake higher education in Norway.
This qualification comprises requirements regarding the scope and content of secondary education, including language competencies.
The Higher Education Entrance Qualification is country-specific. The Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (NOKUT) manages the overview of country-specific requirements, called the GSU list. View the GSU list

Applicants with international qualifications may satisfy the requirements for university admission in Norway, regardless of their nationality. For more information on higher education entry requirements for applicants with international qualifications, such as International Baccalaureate (IB) or Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), please choose the specific qualification in the search section on NOKUT’s website.

English language

If you have your Higher Education Entrance Qualification from an English-speaking country, or have taken higher education in English, you may fulfill the requirements without any of the English tests above.  Check NOKUT’s GSU-list for country-specific information about documenting proficiency in English language. The test scores provided on NOKUT’s overview are for the bachelor level.
English language tests and scores:

  • Completed and passed English course (140 hours per year / 5 hours per week) taken at Norwegian upper secondary school.
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 500 on the written test or 60 on the online test. Nord University’s TOEFL code is 1648.
  • IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) with a minimum score of 5.0.
  • University of Cambridge First Certificate in English OR Certificate in Advanced English OR Certificate of Proficiency in English

Financial capacity – non EU/EEA applicants

After you receive your offer of admission, in order to obtain a study permit, you will need to be able to show Nord University and the Norwegian Government that you have sufficient funds to live in Norway for one (1) year.
The amount required for the study year 2019-2020 is NOK 121 220. This amount is subject to change. Check the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration for up-to-date information. Successful applicants will receive more information about financial capacity in their Offer of Admission.
