The focus areas for the Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences are practice-related research within mental health work, health and care, drug use and management, clinical nursing, management, patient safety, pedagogy and public health.The research activity at the faculty is led by the Vice Dean of Research, Ottar Bjerkeset.

Faculty staff participate in many research groups:- Clinical nursing and ethics. Leader Berit Støre Brinchmann- Care Lead – nursing management, patient safety and innovation. Leader Terese Bondas- The professional’s knowledge development in nursing and health sciences (Norwegian language web site). Leader Johanne Alteren- Public health work. Mr. Eva Robertson- ANILAB. Manager Erik Waage Nielsen- Practice-close research in the municipal health service. The Ministry of Health and Care Services has appointed a national center for care research. The center’s mandate is to gather, produce, and disseminate knowledge about care and care work. In connection with this, five regional centers have been established. One of these is the Center for Care Research, Midt (Norwegian language web site), which places emphasis on care challenges, competence development and dissemination in municipalities. The Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences has eight of its employees associated with this center.CEO: Kirsten Lange.
The Faculty is also active in the Center for Practical Knowledge (Norwegian language web site).Leader: Bente Aina Ingebrigtsen.
The Faculty of Nursing and Health Sciences is also a partner in the Research School in the municipal health care (MUNI-HEALTH-CARE).
