Why Do I Need A Student Portal?

Every students ( both fresh and returning students ) need the student portal for so many reasons of which they are listed below.

  • Course registration
  • School fees payment
  • Check semester result
  • View admission list
  • Pay acceptance fee
  • Process academic transcript
  • View academic calendar
  • Hostel application
  • Deferment of admission etc.

All you need to do is to log in to the student portal and carry out any activity of your choice.

How To Access RU Connected Portal

To log onto RUconnected staff and students at Rhodes University have to use their Rhodes usernames and passwords. This is the same user name and password that they would use to access their email, the Internet and other services.


Your RUconnected username is your student student number. Please note that you should replace the 6 at the beginning of your student number with a g when logging in to any of Rhodes’s online systems. For example, if your student is 612A1234 you should use g12A1234 as a username.

If you do not know what the password for your Rhodes student account is, you can click on Forgotten your Password to reset your password for ROSS (Rhodes Online Student Services) and receive a new one-time password for ROSS via SMS. Once you’ve set a new password for ROSS, you will also have to change your Rhodes student account password (which will affect all other services that uses that password such as Novell logins, e-mail, web access, RUconnected, the library eprints server, etc.)

Alternatively you can reset your Rhodes student account password by visiting the Student Bureau in the Eden Grove Lecture Complex, making sure to bring along some kind of picture identity (student card, ID book or passport).


In most cases, your RUconnected username will correspond to your staff number. However, a number of staff who have been at Rhodes for a long time will have a different username than their staff number. If you do not know which username and password to use to access RUconnected should visit IT Support on the first floor of the Struben Building, (making sure to bring along some form of picture identification such as your staff card, ID document or passport).

If you know your old password you can change your password at Change Staff Password. Changing your email password will affect everything that uses that password, including Novell logins, e-mail, web access, RUconnected, the library eprints server, etc.

External or off-campus users (i.e. those people who do not have a Rhodes account)
