School of Graduate Studies Organizes Orientation for Sandwich Students

The School of Graduate Studies has held orientation for students enrolled on various Sandwich programmes for the 2018/2019 academic year at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium, University of Ghana Business School (UGBS).
In an opening remark, the Administrator of the School, Mrs. Stella Dovlo welcomed the students and introduced faculty and administrative staff. She urged them to abide by the rules and regulations of the University.

The Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Professor K. Tano-Debrah, in his address commended the students on their punctuality in attending the orientation. He indicated that the purpose of the orientation was to create a platform to familiarize students on the Graduate School system which would guide them through their stay in the University. He encouraged them to read the Graduate School Handbook and make optimum use of all the University’s facilities.

Professor Robert D. Osei, Vice-Dean, School of Graduate Studies highlighted the admission procedure and regulations governing the processing of thesis. He further enlightened the fresh students on the selection of courses, graduation requirements and the Graduate Studies Committee.

The Head of Electronic Resources at the Balme Library, Dr. Olive Adjah gave a detailed presentation on the University’s Library System. She highlighted the various spaces and services offered by the Balm Library, the University’s collections, research aids and off-campus access to library resources.

Elaborating on matters related to fees, a representative at the Student’s Accounts Office, Mr. Michael Asante-Antwi, elaborated on the need for students to be in good financial standing, keeping records of receipts, paying fees at designated banks and providing correct student information especially identification numbers. He also mentioned other online paying platforms such as the UGPay.

Mr. Vincent K. Acheampong from the University Computing System emphasized the need for students to register online each semester. He elaborated on the registration process and how to use the MIS web as well as issuance of Students ID cards.
The outgoing President of the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Mr. Ato Brown enlightened students on the activities of the Association and encouraged them to be actively involved.
A cross section of students raised some few concerns during the open forum session, after which Mrs. Bernice Tamakloe, a Senior Assistant Registrar at the Academic Affairs Directorate administered the Matriculation Oath on behalf of the Registrar, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia.

Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Registrars of the School of Graduate Studies, Ms. Pascaline Songsore and Ms. Loretta Tenkorang.
