What is termed as UCT NSFAS Bursary Application ? The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is a public entity reporting to the Department of Higher Education and Training. NSFAS provides financial assistance in the form of a study bursary to qualifying students who wish to study or are already studying at TVET colleges and public universities of which UCT is a beneficiary .

What does the UCT NSFAS bursary cover?

Applicants who are approved for NSFAS funding are covered for the following:

Who qualifies for the UCT NSFAS bursary?

You qualify for a NSFAS bursary if you are a South African citizen who plans to study in 2024 or you are already studying at a public university or TVET college and you meet the following requirements:

  • SASSA grant recipients or
  • Your combined household income is not more than R350 000 per year or
  • Person with a disability with a combined household income of not more than R600 000 per year or
  • Student who begun their university studies before 2018 and their household income is not more than R122 000 per year

During the NSFAS application process, the following documents and information are typically required:

  1. Personal Information: This includes your full name, date of birth, identity document (ID) number, and contact details.
  2. Proof of Household Income: You will need to provide documentation or statements that show the total income of your household. This may include salary slips, bank statements, or an affidavit if there is no formal income.
  3. Identity Documents: You will need to submit certified copies of your ID document, as well as those of your parents or legal guardians.
  4. Academic Records: This includes your most recent academic results or transcripts, including the final results from your previous academic year.
  5. Proof of Registration or Acceptance: You will need to provide proof of registration or acceptance at a recognized tertiary institution.
  6. Banking Details: You will be required to provide your personal banking details, including the account holder’s name, account number, and branch code.
  7. Consent and Declarations: You may need to sign consent forms and make declarations confirming the accuracy of the information provided.

How and where to apply For UCT NSFAS Bursary Application

You can apply online using a cellphone, tablet or computer. Follow these simple steps to apply:

Step 1: Go to www.nsfas.org.za and click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab

Step 2: Create a myNSFAS account

Step 3: Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab and answer the questions on the screen

Step 4: Upload the required supporting documents then click on ‘submit’

After you click on ‘submit’, your application reference number will appear on the screen. The reference number will also be sent to the cellphone number and email address you provided.

University of Cape Town NSFAS Bursary Application Deadline For 2024

The closing date for 2024 applications is January 31, 2024. students may resubmit after withdrawing their application as long as they resubmit before the closing date

Do you pay back NSFAS?

Yes, the NSFAS loan will need to be repaid. The student borrows the money to cover the study costs. The loan only needs to be repaid after completing the qualification, upon leaving the University or College, found employment / in business, earning R30,000 or more annually.
