UEW Dept of Educational Administration and Management to Introduce New Programmes
The Department of Educational Administration and Management (DEAM) under the Faculty of Educational Studies is on the verge of introducing new programmes. This will help meet the corporate strategic plan of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) as the leading institution for teacher education in Ghana.
The programmes which will ease the process of conducting research and also boost the zeal for carrying out research in the country and beyond are Master of Science (M.Sc) in Educational Research and Master of Education (M.Ed) in Human Resource Management.
This was made known during a four-day Departmental Academic retreat held at Bedrock Hotel in Anomabo, Central Region from Monday, 11th to Thursday, 14th June, 2018.
In his Welcome Address and Purpose for the Gathering at the Opening Ceremony of the four-day retreat, the Head of Department (HoD), Dr. Hinneh Kusi remarked that UEW had a strategic plan for the past five years and was reviewing it to cover the next five years. He added that “so in line with that, the Department of Educational Administration and Management is expected to work within the same framework”.
“The issues in the strategic plan of the University have called for this retreat; so we are here to repackage our programmes to meet the current demands. As a result, we are going to work on proposals for new programmes.” He said.
The HoD encouraged his colleagues and all participants to give up their best for the success of the retreat and to the benefit of UEW as well.
In his Keynote Address, the Dean, Faculty of Educational Studies, Prof. Samuel Hayford who was the guest speaker as well as a representative of the Ag. Vice-Chancellor underscored that retreats were important in the existence of every University.
“I wish you all the best of luck because we understand the essence of retreats. We know how invaluable retreats are in the life of a University particularly a developing University like ours which has a special mandate to produce professional educators to spearhead a new national vision of education aimed at redirecting Ghana’s effort along the path of rapid economic and social development. So if you have a University which has a special mandate of this kind, then when our educational system fails, fingers will be pointed at the University.” He said.
The Dean therefore, admonished lecturers to put more credence on market driven programmes to prepare students or learners for the job market after completion of their programmes. He added that lecturers should ensure they inculcate entrepreneurial skills in students to equip them to create their own businesses rather than following the ‘get rich quick’ syndrome.
