UEW Faculty of Foreign Languages Education and Communication Prepares its Lecturers for Promotion

The Faculty of Foreign Languages Education and Communication (FFLEC) from Thursday, 14th to Saturday, 16th June, 2018 held its Annual Faculty Retreat at Pempamsie Hotel, Cape Coast to enhance research skills, efficiency and collaboration among staff as well as equip them for promotion.

The three-day annual retreat which was under the theme “Sharpening Research and Professional Skills for the Faculty Growth and Academic Programmes Expansion” was to prepare lecturers in the Faculty to train competent and professional teachers for all levels of education, as well as conduct research, disseminate knowledge and contribute to educational policy and development.

The retreat also aimed at helping lecturers get a platform to share their research works and innovative ideas with the Faculty, help and make inputs to improve on individual and group research works.

In this regard, every lecturer was given the opportunity to deliver a 40-minutes presentation (including time for comments, suggestions and peer reviews) of his or her research work. Professors in the Faculty were present as resource persons and peer reviewers to assist participants appraise their research works.

In his Welcome Address and Purpose for the Retreat, the Ag. Dean of FFLEC, Dr. Andy Ofori-Birikorang said “we have gathered here to share innovative ideas, build on our collective knowledge in academic research, promotion, collaboration and partnership within the Faculty and beyond”. He added, “this retreat presents a forum where we can meet colleagues from our areas of specialisation and also network with our colleagues in the Faculty”.

He expressed his gratitude to Management of the University for the tremendous support provided to make the programme a reality.

Amuzu; Senior Lecturer, Department of French Education, Prof. Akanbi Mudasiru Ilupeju; Senior Lecturer, Department of Applied Linguistics, Dr. Kwaku Ofori (Chairman for the retreat); former Dean, FFLEC, Dr. Rebecca Akpanglo-Nartey; Faculty Officer Mr. Amos Amamoo; Administrator, Department of French Education, Mr. Kwabena Agyepong; Heads of Department and Lecturers in the Faculty.
