Overview Of UMaT and its Undergraduate Programs

The University of Mines and Technology is a public university located at Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana. The Tarkwa Technical Institute predated UMaT and was founded in 1952. In order to better prepare workers for Ghana’s mining industry, the university’s name was changed to the Tarkwa School of Mines in 1961.

GRADE AGGREGATES SYSTEM FOR WASSCE AND SSSCE HOLDERS

UMaT uses WASSCE Grading Systems for the selection of candidates. Aggregate 36 is the minimum entry aggregate into all programmes. The following table shows this Grading System and the SSSCE equivalent grades.

APPLICANTS WITH ORDINARY ‘O’ LEVEL AND ADVANCED ‘A’ LEVEL  CERTIFICATES:

* Applicants must have GCE Ordinary Level Certificate or its equivalent with credits in five subjects including English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

 * GCE Advanced Level Certificate with passes in Mathematics, Physic and Chemistry.

UMaT Application Procedure For International Undergraduate Applicants 

International applicants from accredited/recognised institutions with equivalent qualifications will be considered for admission

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE
Applicants with international Baccaleureate (Science and Technical) are eligible to apply. Such applicants must also possess a proficiency certificate in English. Please note that all certificates should be translated into English. Equivalences with regard to the certificates would be sought at the National Accreditation Board.

Steps For International Undergraduate Applicants :

International applicants should follow the steps below:

  1. Applicants should fill in the International Applicants Code Request Form below with a valid mobile number in the format given. Eg +234812345678 becomes 234812345678.
  2. You will receive the Serial Number and Personal Identification Number via Text Message and Email Address to access the Online Admission System.
  3. Complete the Online Registration process with the Serial Number and Personal Identification Number sent to your Email or Mobile No.
  4. Scan and email all relevant results / certificate to admissions.umat.edu.gh
