Understanding The New WAEC WASSCE Grading System: West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced significant changes to the grading system for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). These changes aim to provide a more accurate reflection of students’ academic performance and align the grading system with international standards.
The Old WAEC WASSCE Grading System
Before delving into the new grading system, let’s take a moment to reflect on the old one.
The old WAEC WASSCE grading system was as follows:

To pass the WASSCE, students were required to obtain a minimum grade of D in each subject.
The old WAEC WASSCE grading system was changed in 2006 to the current system, which uses grades A1-F9. The new system was designed to provide more differentiation between students’ performances.
Understanding The New WAEC WASSCE Grading System
Under the new WAEC grading system, A1 is Excellent, B2 Very Good, B3 Good, C4, C5 and C6 are interpreted as Credit, D7 and D8 are interpreted as Pass, while F9 is Fail.
A1 and B2 in the WASSCE means Excellent, B3 is B (Very Good), C4 is C (Good), C5 and C6 are D (Credit), D7 and E8 are E (Pass) and F9 is F (Fail).

What is the value of C6 in WASSCE?
The value of C6 in WASSCE is 50-54. It is considered a credit pass. A C6 is a good grade, and it is considered to be a credit pass. It is accepted by most universities and colleges. However, students who are aiming for the top universities may need to obtain higher grades in their subjects.
Is D7 considered pass?
In Ghana The Average mark for every students to enroll into university is C6…Thus D7 is not considered as a pass in Ghana.
