PROGRAMME GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

Goals

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme is intended to produce nurses who will provide preventive, curative, promotive and rehabilitative nursing care at all levels of the health care system to individuals, families and communities.

Objectives

Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving abilities in provision of care to individuals, families and communities applying the nursing care process.
Apply knowledge and skills from the physical and social sciences, towards the provision of appropriate care. Utilize relevant research findings for the provision of evidence-based care.
Contribute to nursing knowledge through research and continuous practice. Participate in the teaching of nursing and other students by creating avenues for acquisition of holistic knowledge and skills.
Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision making abilities in various situations.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
WASSCE & SSSCE APPLICANTS
The University admits students with West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) with at least credits in six courses (C6) in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and three (3) elective subjects in Science, General Arts or Home Economics subjects with an overall aggregate of 24 or better for SSSCE holders and 36 or better for WASSCE holders. Senior Secondary School applicants will enter the programme at level100.
MATURE APPLICANTS
Mature applicants include:

a. DIPLOMA HOLDERS

  • Holders of a Diploma in Nursing from recognized institutions with a minimum GPA of 2.50 and a pass in the licensure examination conducted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana will be admitted to level 300.
  • Applicants age must be 25 years and above.
  • A selection of examination and interview will be administered or offered.

b. OTHER MATURE CANDIDATES

  • Professional nurses with Diploma in Nursing Education/Administration with a minimum of B+ average (will enter at level 200).
  • State Registered Nurses (enter the programme in the second year).
  • Health Care Assistants, Community, or Enrolled Nurse (enter the programme at level 100).
  • Mature applicants (non-nursing professionals) must have the minimum application requirement.

Wisconsin International University College, BSc. Nursing Accredited by the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Ghana
Wisconsin International University College’s School of Nursing invites applications from Nurse Assistant Clinical personnel (formally known as Health Assistant Clinical) personnel who have been certified by Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana and have three (3) years’ working experience to join an intensive six-week Access to BSc Nursing programme.
Students on this course will be equipped with knowledge that would enable successful candidates to enrol at Level 200 of Wisconsin’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing programme.
Entry Requirements
Holders of Nurse Assistant Clinical (NAC/HAC) Certificate from Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana with three (3) years’ work experience.
