PROGRAMME TITLE: BA Computer Science & Management
History
The BA Computer Science & Management programme was first designed for accreditation as B.Sc Computer Science and Office Management in 2002. In line with the requirements of LI 1700, the programme was submitted to University of Ghana for affiliation and was revised as a BA Computer Science and Managemen programme. The programme was reaccredited by NAB in September  2010.
The new programme structure of the University of Ghana guided the revision of the curriculum to include required courses such as African Studies, Understanding Human Societies and  Introduction to Literature.

Aims and Objectives
PROGRAMME PHILOSOPHY
The BA Computer Science & Management programme is an outcome of the College’s determination to provide high level skills and competencies to today’s professional IT and Management world. It is especially designed to address the training needs of lower and middle level personnel in organisations, both public and private. The rapid technology changes in our modern world demand new managerial skills in IT and creativity to fashion out best practices and new orientations for today’s IT and Management professionals who need to understand the dynamics and complexities of modern IT and Management business in the context of developing countries like Ghana.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the programme are to:

  • provide graduates with knowledge and skills to analyse problems across all business and IT functions within an organisation and develop and implement effective strategies.
  • provide graduates with the knowledge and skills to use quantitative methods and technology to support problem analysis and decision-making.
  • provide graduates with the  knowledge and skills for building teams, empowering colleagues, and motivating subordinates within an organisation.
  • teach graduates the importance and utilisation of ethical decision-making principles.

Components of the Programme
The programme targets learners with a variety of work and life experiences.  Students are taught a range of skills that allow them to solve real business problems.  In addition, multiple methods of instruction are used, including lectures and discussion, case studies, small group work, simulations, field work and mini projects.
Teaching methods emphasise student participation and leadership and teach students to make measured decisions, to analyse business problems from several angles and recommend the best solutions.  Additionally, students develop leadership and interpersonal skills as they learn to solve problems in groups.  Students are also encouraged to apply theory learnt in class to the business scenarios they may encounter in the course of their work.
INDUSTRIAL ATTACHMENT PROGRAMME
Rationale for the Programme
The current trend in higher education is to buttress traditional learning practices with vocational activities to increase student employability. Benefits of work placements include bridging theory learnt in the classroom with practical experience that allows students to implement concepts and models and career decision-making.
