The Centre for Climate Change and Gender Studies is organizing short courses for academic and professionals in all fields of study. The courses are aimed at giving practical soft skills and also updating academic and professional personnel on new and trending methods in research, policy and practice.

  1. Academic Research Proposal Writing and Research Methods

Description
The course focuses on the art of writing academic research proposals (at the postgraduate level), going through identifying the research problem and stating it, defining research objectives, developing suitable hypothesis and writing the research questions to address. The course also exposes participants to new and trending methods in qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods.
Course delivery involves a combination of theoretical guidelines with practices examples, and gives participants opportunity to gain practical skills through in-class exercises.

Course Content

  • Qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods.
  • Sampling and power analysis
  • Research instrument design.
  • Academic proposal writing.
  • Data analysis –Introduction to SPSS, ATLAS.ti and/or R
  • On-field testing of research instrument (practical session).

 
Target participants – prospective postgraduate students and researchers
Duration: Monday, 7 November – Thursday, 10 November, 2016 (4 days).
Course fee: GHC 500.00 per participant (includes course materials, certificate, snacks and lunch)

  1. Project Proposal Writing and Management

Description
Several donor funded projects are advertised all year round. The competitiveness of the applications demands that interested applicants are skilled in the project proposal writing art to increase their chances of receiving funding. This course offers participants with the skills, tricks and secrets of putting together a highly promising project proposal, and how to manage project’s lifecycle once funding is secured.
The course will be delivered in a practical way by regularly successful project applicants from governmental and non-governmental organizations.

  • Pitching through concept notes.
  • Full proposal writing.
  • Gender sensitivity and youth inclusion.
  • Project action plan.
  • Monitoring and evaluation.

Target participants – the course targets personnel from research institutes and Centres, governmental and non-governmental organizations, lecturers, and all practitioners that want to consolidate or update their knowledge on project proposal writing.
Duration: Monday, 14 November- Thursday, 17 November, 2016 (4 days).
Course fee: GHC 500.00 per participant (includes course materials, certificate, snacks and lunch)
Deadline for registration: 7th November, 2016.
 

  1. Qualitative and Quantitative Data Analysis

Description
New methods and software for qualitative and quantitative research are being developed. However, academic curriculum on research methods are yet to keep up with these changes. This courses takes participants through the details of newer qualitative and quantitative research methods and software for both social and experimental research, and how to use them in their personal research work.

Course Content

  • Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA).
  • Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA).
  • Principal Component Analysis (PCA).
  • Structural Equation Modelling (SEM).
  • Using R, and SPSS-AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structures).

Target participants – the course targets postgraduate students, personnel from research institutes and Centres, lecturers, research fellows and all practitioners that want to consolidate or update their knowledge on quantitative and qualitative research methods and software.
Duration: Monday, 21 November- Thursday, 24 November, 2016 (4 days).
Course fee: GHC 500.00 per participant (includes course materials, certificate, snacks and lunch)
Deadline for registration: 7th November, 2016.
