SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION:

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are co-funded by United Kingdom Department for International Development (DFID) and United Kingdom universities.
The scholarships aim is to give an opportunity to talented and motivated applicants to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to foster sustainable development. In addition, the scholarship will help students who cannot afford the cost of studying in United Kingdom universities.

ELIGIBLE COURSES:

Scholarships will be awarded for full-time Master’s degree programmes in; science and technology for development, strengthening health systems and capacity, global prosperity, strengthening global peace, security and governance, strengthening resilience and response to crises as well as access, inclusion and opportunity.

ASIA:

Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka

AFRICA:

Cameroon, Gambia, Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia

SOUTH AMERICA:

Guyana

OCEANIA

Kiribati, New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGE:

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships and participating United Kingdom universities will cover the following benefits;

  • Full approved tuition fees
  • Approved travel costs (airfare from your home country to United Kingdom and return after studies)
  • Monthly living stipend at the rate of £1,084 per month. However, those pursuing their degrees at universities in the London metropolitan area will receive £1,330 per month
  • Warm clothing allowance (If applicable)
  • Dissertation grant (If applicable)
  • Study travel costs
  • Excess baggage costs
  • Refund of the cost of a mandatory tuberculosis (TB) test

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

To be eligible for these scholarships, applicants MUST;

  • Be a citizen of or have refugee status in an eligible Commonwealth country. British Protected Person are also eligible to apply
    • Be a permanent resident in a Commonwealth country listed above
    • Be readily available to start studies in September or October 2019
    • Hold a bachelors degree with at least upper second class (2:1) by October 2019
  • Applicants must have not pursued studies or worked in a developed/high income country
    • Show they are unable to pay for their course of study in United Kingdom without this scholarship

SELECTION:

PHASE 1:

United Kingdom participating universities will select to be awarded Commonwealth Shared Scholarships. Thereafter, the universities will submit the list of selected applicants to the awarded Commonwealth Shared Scholarships in May 2019.

PHASE 2:

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships will screen the applications to make sure they meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship. After screening, the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships will update the universities about the decision. Candidates are then informed by the universities in July 2019.

NB:

Selection of scholarship recipients will entirely be based on;

  • Academic merit or record of the applicant
  • Applicants potential to impact development work in their country of origin

HOW TO APPLY:

Select a course to apply for in the list of eligible courses.
Only 1 scholarship offer will be awarded. However, you can apply for more courses or to different universities.
You must apply for a master’s admission through the university you intend to attend. Please contact the university you want to apply for application deadline and admission. The following link shows universities contact details.
Submit an online application form to Commonwealth Shared Scholarships application system. Please note that, only online applications are accepted.
