A GHANAIAN PHILANTHROPIST DONATES BOOKS WORTH $10,000 TO UENR
A Ghanaian based in Canada Mr. Steven Agyeman, from the University of Calgary has donated 2,655 books and 290 pamphlets on various academic disciplines such as science, business and novels worth $10,000 CAD to UENR. Speaking after a colorful donation ceremony in Sunyani, Mr. Agyeman said the books donated was his widow’s mite towards education in Ghana. He added that as a native of the region, he found it expedient to assist the University.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Harrison Dapaah who received the books on behalf of the University thanked Mr. Agyeman for his enormous contribution to make UENR a world class tertiary institution. He assured him that the books would be handed over to the University Library to be put to good use.
In another development, a Lecturer and Head of Department for Agriculture Economics, Agribusiness and Extensions of the University of Energy and Natural Resources, Dr. Richard Bannor has donated eighth books on Research Methods, Economics and Econometrics to the Library of the School of Agriculture and Technology to support teaching and learning in the University.
In a short speech, Dr. Bannor said the Department was young and needed to be supported with the necessary resources that served as reference materials for students and lecturers. He added that he was motivated to donate to the Library when he had the opportunity to visit India as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow where he thought it wise to get the books for the Library to help enrich the quality of knowledge gained by students in UENR. He urged the University Library to seek for support from other Lecturers in UENR to help equip the Library with reference and research materials.
A Junior Assistant Librarian, Miss Harriet Fosua Attafuah received the books and expressed appreciation to Dr. Bannor for the kind gesture. She added that the books would go a long way to help the Library render its services to students and lecturers and to make teaching and learning effective in the University. She further appealed to other stakeholders and philanthropists to make more donations to the Library unit of the University.
